BCFI History
The Black Child and Family
Institute emerged from series of symposia held throughout the state in 1986. At
that time more than 800 community residents and representatives of local and
state agencies met to discuss the current hardships African American children
and their families were facing. These symposia participants were able to
actively identify problem areas and develop a system of prioritization. With the
help of dedicated members, more programs and services were introduced to address
needs in the areas of family stability, mental health, education and economic
development. Now, working as a non-profit corporation, BCFI continues to serve
as a vehicle through which positive change is fostered in the greater Lansing
community.
BCFI seeks to attract other community organizations
that need an efficient meeting and conference center.
